NEWS and EVENTS NEWS AND EVENTS Oxford Borough Council President, Randy Teel releases statement As President of the Oxford Borough Council, I would like to respond to a confusing article: “7 Nitwits Shut Down Wal-Mart” printed in the Chester County Press’s August 13th edition. My reason for responding is to give our residents the facts, which were lacking in the article.
1. Wal-Mart is not located in the Borough of Oxford, so the Oxford Borough council does not have the authority to shut down Wal-Mart, as it was stated in the headline.
2. The Borough Council has had no discussion about Wal-Mart or spoken with Wal-Mart representatives since February of 2008. That discussion was done in a public meeting. So, the statement in the article that Council just told Wal-Mart to take a walk is not correct.
3. The Borough Council has not refused to sell water to Lower Oxford.
4. It is the Borough’s understanding that the Wal-Mart project is continuing and has not been shut down.
Finally, the Oxford Borough Council is proud to make decisions based on what is good for our residents and not based on the pressure of any newspaper, or special interest groups.
